About the Event

Come on a sonic journey with Melbourne based ensemble Samassin as they perform earthy, Eastern-tinged compositions, with ancient rhythms and cinematic beauty. Their music is truly global in scope, rich with influences of jazz and exotic modes from the Middle East and India. Samassin are Kirsty Pittman (guitar), Gustavo Moreno (percussion) Daniel Hoban (Guitar, Percussion), Justin Lim (Clarinet, Bass Clarinet) and Belinda Woods (Flute).

Sandy Jeffs is an award-winning poet based in Nillumbik. She has lived with schizophrenia and all its moods for 40 years. As a community educator she speaks to schools, universities and community groups about what it’s like to live with a mental illness. She has been published widely and is a prize-winning poet whose writing has been concerned with madness, domestic violence and the humorous antics of women who play midweek ladies’ tennis. For this online performance Sandy and Kirsty have combed through each other’s work to develop a seamless collaboration of poetry and music.
