When Vinod Prasanna, Sarita McHarg and Aman Kalyan finished their performance in The Boite venue in Mark St. North Fitzroy, on March 14th, noone recognized that it was the last live concert in an annual season that would normally have included another 60 or so events! A week later, The Boite staff uploaded and presented listeners with Cordillera, online. It was the first of what became a year of online concerts, seminars and showcases, supporting musicians whose livelihoods and practice had slid out from under them in the most dramatic social change Melbourne has seen since World War 2. With support from Creative Victoria, The Australia Council, Bendigo Bank, Yarra, and Whitehorse Councils and the Shire of Nillumbik, The Boite has maintained a program of more than 40 performances, providing paid work for technicians and artists across 8 months. That’s what we plan to celebrate on November 29th, with a long afternoon of cameo performances, clips from this year’s work and conversations with key people from across the year. Premiering that afternoon will be a new song, the latest collaboration between Melbourne writer Arnold Zable and singer-songwriter Kavisha Mazzella, now based in Perth. The event will also feature an auction of a series of framed high-quality prints of The Boite Posters produced across the Boite Millennium Chorus’ 20 year life. Those posters will be available for viewing and bids online from November 13th.
