After a superb year of music discovery, the World Music Open Mic returns as Suitcase: World Music Soirée, an event that recognises the invaluable heritage that musicians carry with them as they move from one place to another.
And we are relocating at the fabulous Open Studio, home of so much diverse music and the most welcoming of spaces.
These events do not adhere to any particular genre or style. They offer musicians from all over the world an opportunity to be heard in a city that abounds with diversity but has very limited outlets for showcasing it musically.
Hosted by a special guest each month, the line up has consistently been full of pleasant surprises, unusual sounds and very happy people, musicians and audience alike.
In last year's series music was played and sung by over 170 performers born in more than 50 different countries... and we expect it to grow this year and continue to offer a unique platform for cultures to meet and learn from one another.
The events will continue to happen on the second Wednesday of every month at Open Studio, 204 High Street, Northcote. They are free to attend and perform in. Musicians interested in performing can register at bit.ly/boite-wmon
