Walk for the Music

On Sunday March 28th, with 80 registered walkers, 3 musicians, a bookmaking crew, a team of volunteers and a warm, sunny day, we set out to Walk for the Music. Scattered around the 11 kilometre loop along the banks of the Yarra River and the Merri Creek, we encountered Iaki Vallejo who taught us a beautiful original melody of her own, Peter Vadiveloo who showed us how to use our body for a rhythmic accompaniment, and Ernie Gruner, who ushered us back to the starting point – the Abbotsford Convent – with his violin. At every stop, Kids Own Publishing provided us with materials and inspiration to hand-make a book with a personal, intimate take on a day of connection and joy.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the walk, to everyone who sponsored a walker and to the Clifton Hill Community Bank, Kids Own Publishing and the Abbotsford Convent. Together, we raised $15,740 for The Boite.

And thanks, also, to the incredible volunteers scattered along the way to help the walkers find their way, to our Fundraising Sub-Committee led by Merren Ricketson and our chair Pam Creed, who took on the role of producing and coordinating this first edition of what we are hopìng will become a regular event in our program.

Here are some wonderful photos of the day, captured by our photographer Isaac D. Lamb. We thank him for his time.
