The Boîte Singers’ Festival comprises three days of vocal inspiration and sheer fun on the second weekend of January each year since 1999. The weekend comprises 30+ workshops and concerts, mixing music from all over the world, improvisation, songwriting, conducting, technique and more. Featuring some phenomenal singers, songwriters and choir leaders, the festival is for choirs, singers, teachers and facilitators of all levels and styles.
This year, the festival will also launch Voices Unbound a multi-ethnic choir, geared at young singers. The project will bring together like-minded young people from diverse ethnic backgrounds in a safe and nurturing space to develop connections across cultural and language boundaries. It harnesses the power of song to explore identity and individuality, build confidence and stimulate collaboration.
A number of scholarships are available for singers between the ages of 16 and 25 to attend the festival for free. These have been provided by community choirs including Box Hill Community Arts Centre Choir, Breathing Space, Brunswick Women’s Choir, Cadence, Gorani, Living Out Loud, Phoenix, Phoenix Park Singers, South of The River Choir, The Chocolate Lilies, Thursday’s Children and the Victorian Trade Union Choir.
