Gaumarjos, meaning victory in Georgian, is a combination of three Melbourne based groups, The Melbourne Georgian Choir, Gorani and Tsinskaro, all specialising in traditional Georgian songs and chants.
Gaumarjos presents songs of love, good fortune, building the perfect house, horse riding, the perils of mountain climbing, lost children, forlorn bullocks as well as glorious church songs and chants.
Inspired by Georgian ethnomusicologists Joseph Jordania and Nino Tsitsishvili, members of Gaumarjos have visited Georgia many times to learn from teachers and culture keepers in many regions of this beautiful, complex country.
