Super Mande Percussion is a dynamic ensemble that performs traditional West African percussion, folk and jazz music led by Mady Keita from Mali and supported by multi-instrumentalists from Senegal, Guinea, Gambia and Ghana. The full ensemble includes vocals, djembe (hand drums), kora (African harp), balafon (African xylophone), guitar, dounouns (base drums) and dance. Super Mande Percussion have become a popular addition to numerous world music, multicultural and community events, festivals, shows and markets throughout Victoria and beyond over the last 16 years. Previous highlights include the Boite Singers Festival, White Night Melbourne, Yackandandah Folk Festival, Mount Beauty Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Moomba, Castlemaine Festival, Sustainable Living Festival, Fair@Square, Pako Festa, Cobden Spring Festival, Gippsland Multicultural Festival, Globe to Globe World Music Festival, Whitehorse Global Fiesta, Frankston Live & Local Waterfront Festival, Dandenong World Fare, African Festival Melbourne, AFL Footy Festival, SalamFest, Queen Victoria night market and various local council festivals and events. The ensemble size is flexible, from solo up to 8 or more performers, and can perform either on stage or in a roving format. We also offer African drumming, dance, singing and drum-making workshops.
