About the Event
Starting this Saturday! Online rehearsals each Saturday afternoon, all are welcome. We are doing our best to keep you singing in these volatile times. COVID has changed our lives, but so has Georgian singing! The Melbourne Georgian Choir, an Australian mixed voice choir, was established in 2010, has explored this wonderful music under the direction initially of Georgian ethnomusicologists Dr Joseph Jordania and Dr Nino Tsitsishvili, and for the past two years, Krys Derwinski. Georgian polyphony is renowned for its powerful sound, unique harmonic language, and dissonant chords. Recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage Masterpiece, Chakrilo, was sent into space on a golden CD on the 1977 Voyager rocket.
