About the Event
Diplomat, musician, poet and philosopher, Fred Smith’s songs are wry, witty and emotionally powerful. He blends tunes you can whistle with stories you will remember. His songs are subtle and perceptive. His remarkable hybrid career is the subject of an Australian Story documentary. His memoir, the Dust of Uruzgan, was published by Allen and Unwin. Fred’s performances will have you laughing, thinking and feeling.
Supporting Fred Smith, with their first Melbourne show will be The Kabul Birds Band. Inspired by the Afghan community in Australia and Fred Smith’s work, Kabul Birds Band was formed by Ravy Qasimi to give Afghani musicians an opportunity to share their music and culture with the broader community. With musicians drawn from both Melbourne and Sydney, including Australian born and more recent arrivals The Kabul Birds Band will bring their joyous sound to the stage at Kingston Arts Centre.
