About the Event

The Konstantin Projekt: Grandmother's Tongue is a multicultural, slyly political, multidisciplinary extravaganza about chickens and people, with foot-stomping music, performance, puppetry and digital animation. For audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Everybody knows Konstantin, the loudest rooster in the village! But how did he get here? Did he fly? Did he walk? Did he swim? Flightless birds from the jungles of South-East Asia, chickens didn't get anywhere on their own. The story of their global journey reveals other hidden histories – of trade, war, piracy, slavery and good old-fashioned adventure - stretching back thousands of years.

Konstantin: Grandmother’s Tongue is the work the world needs now, our very own, wildly inventive response to COVID doom and gloom. Flipping the bird to lonely, heart-hardening conformity, this is a Brechtian-inspired, foot-stomping love song to hard times, by women who know what hard times mean. The rich and lively world of Konstantin, disturbingly close to our own! is pecking at the egg, demanding to be born…
