About the Event
Friends and collaborators of acclaimed Tatar-Australian artist Zulya Kamalova will come together for a very special event to mark her birthday following her untimely death in 2024. Zulya was renowned within Australia and internationally as the frontwoman of ARIA award winning band Zulya and the Children of the Underground, and for a range of collaborations and projects which extended to cross cultural explorations, theatre and opera. Zulya’s songwriting and vocals were grounded in her Tatar Australian identity, but also informed by jazz, cabaret and traditional musics of the world. In 2022 Zulya became Director of The Boîte, bringing her rich personal experience of the multicultural music sector to a series of ambitious new projects.
This special event will feature a huge lineup of artists who were either close collaborators of Zulya’s, or were close to her heart. Artists on the day will perform playlists featuring songs that were written, loved, or influenced by Zulya, with some special unannounced collaborations and appearances to mark the occasion.
Lineup: The Children of the Underground, Mal Webb & Kylie Morrigan, The Wikimen, The Music Between feat. Ria Soemardjo, Rosa Voto, Misagh Zamani, Vinod Prasanna, Eamon McNelis's Big Idiot Club, Gamelan DanAnda, Floyd Thursby, Langue de Chat, Bonnie Smith (Reflejos, Queen of Hearts), GRUMPY, and more.
Kitchen open for meals, and VIP meal & ticket deals available.
