About the Event
Opening the evening for Homophonic!, Elysian Blues is an intimate concert featuring guzheng artist QiQi and pianist/composer Kym Dillon, bringing together original music, improvisation and musical conversation in a performance that is both deeply expressive and refreshingly spontaneous.
Drawing on QiQi's original compositions, the performance explores the meeting point between the ancient Chinese guzheng and contemporary piano. Rather than fixed arrangements, each piece leaves space for the musicians to listen, respond and shape the music together in real time, making every performance slightly different from the last. The result is a rich dialogue between two distinctive musical voices—at times delicate and reflective, at others energetic and playful.
Join us for the opening performance before Homophonic! presents its celebrated Strings & Voices concert, celebrating new Australian music and the expressive possibilities of strings and voice.
