Experience a tour of Indonesian gamelan music without leaving Melbourne. This event is free, and unticketed, just turn up.
Eight of Victoria's leading traditional Indonesian arts organisations perform at a free showcase of Indonesian gamelan music at the Northcote Uniting Church - Chalice.
Featuring the music of Bali, Central Java, Cirebon, Lampung, and Sunda performed multiple times and stages throughout the day. Drop in any time, or stay all day.
The Gathering of the Gamelans is dedicated to the memory of Ki Poedijono, a master Javanese dhalang (puppeteer), musician, dancer and gamelan teacher in Australia for over 45 years, who sadly passed away on the 30th of January 2021.
The venue is wheelchair accessible, and all stages are visible from ground level. There is one disabled parking spot immediately out front of the venue.
Parking is not great nearby on Saturdays, so we recommend taking public transport, or active modes if at all possible. The nearest large parking spots are behind the Northcote Social Club, or at Northcote Plaza.
