About the Event
Lunar New Year with QiQi is a vibrant, family-friendly celebration bringing together music, movement and cultural storytelling in the heart of the community.
Led by Melbourne-based musician and composer QiQi, the event showcases a rich mix of traditional and contemporary performances, blending Chinese, Māori, Greek and other cultural influences. Across the afternoon, audiences can enjoy guzheng performances, jazz fusion collaborations, Māori song and dance, Tai Chi demonstrations, Chinese opera face changing, taiko drumming, and expressive ribbon and fan dances. Interactive workshops invite children and adults alike to join in, with opportunities to learn Chinese fan and ribbon dance in a welcoming, inclusive setting.
The program celebrates Lunar New Year as a time of renewal, connection and shared joy. With space to relax, picnic and explore, the event encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, experience diverse cultural traditions and mark the Year of the Horse in a warm and uplifting atmosphere.
Whether you are discovering these art forms for the first time or returning to a much-loved annual celebration, Lunar New Year with QiQi offers a festive, accessible way to welcome the new year through music, dance and community.
