About the Event
Our concert of beautiful Baroque music for voice and orchestra, "Ode to St.Cecilia", focusses on St.Cecilia, the patron saint of music and musicians, and will be held on Saturday 22nd of November which just happens to be St.Cecilia's Day. It will feature music by Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Fredrik Handel and Henry Purcell performed by the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra (MMO) in collaboration with Ensemble Gombert, Melbourne's premier chamber choir. Our conductor will be Warwick Stengaards, Australian/Swedish conductor of major European and Australian orchestras. Warwick first conducted the MMO back in the 1980s and we will enjoy having him back on the podium! The music you'll hear is beautiful and compelling.
The Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, comprised of mandolins, mandolas, mandocello, classical guitars and double bass, is a 30-member strong community-based group with a long and rich history of performing the mandolin orchestra repertoire of traditional, classical and contemporary music in Melbourne and abroad. Our orchestra's ranks include both professional and dedicated enthusiastic amateur musicians.
