The Hungarian Dance House Revival
This performance in Primrose Potter Salon celebrates 50 years of the Táncház (Dance House) movement in Hungary, presents longer form dance suites with Hungarian dancers. Taking inspiration from Béla Bartók’s collected works on wax cylinders, Hungarian dancers and musicians wanting to preserve, share and revive Hungarian music from remote and isolated areas travelled widely to villages with Hungarian populations to learn from old masters, record and collect songs and dances. This culminated in a revival of Transylvanian string band music, exploring in intricate detail the variety of bowing, ornamentation and rhythm between villages.
