About the Event
The Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra presents a program that celebrates women in music, exploring the rich musical landscape of composition and performance for the classical mandolin and guitar repertoire. As in other genres, women are often underrepresented as composers. This concert shines a light on women in music from Australia and around the world.
Conducted by Darryl Barron, this concert will feature soloists Deniz Kaplan (classical guitar) and Johanna Selleck (flute), and presents music by Australian and international composers including Michelle Nelson, Elena Kats-Chernin, Eileen Pakenham, Betty Beath, Anne Carr-Boyd, Eden MacAdam-Somer and Miwa Naito.
The Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, comprised of mandolins, mandolas, mandocelli, classical guitars and double bass, is a 25-member strong community-based group with a long and rich history of performing the mandolin orchestra repertoire of traditional, classical and contemporary music in Melbourne and abroad. Our orchestra's ranks include both professional and dedicated enthusiastic amateur musicians.
