Did you know that the first World Accordion Day was held on 6th May 2009?
This marked the 180th birthday of the accordion - 6 May 1829, the date the accordion patent was filed.
While some might wonder at the need to celebrate, many of us are grateful that this remarkable instrument was invented. Yes, some love to make jokes and say unkind things... but the truth of the matter is that the accordion holds a special place in the hearts of many.
So, the Accordion Society of Australia (ASA) along with the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (yep, the CIA) will celebrate this auspicious date at Open Studio with all things accordion. There may be an accordion orchestra (I know, there's such a thing!)! I will be performing with my new Musette quartet Langue de chat. All are invited to bring their accordions and have a play.
I hope you come along and join us in our accordion joy!
