About the Event
It's been a long time since Zulya & The Children of the Underground played live – so this is a special occasion to celebrate. They will be playing some old favourites but also new ones they’ve learnt during lockdown. The Children of the Underground play beautiful music inspired by Zulya’s Tatar, Russian and Australian identity, but it defies being easily labelled.
It has been described as 'Kurt Weillish, Euro-Cabaret jazz colliding with lullabies constructed to tear your heart out' striking 'a deft balance between melancholic sadness and the unbridled joy that is never too faraway'. Sixteen years, four albums, two ARIA nominations and one ARIA award since their inception, the ensemble is placed firmly at the crossroads of restlessness and the sublime. The result: a transformative concert music that is haunting and nuanced, with Zulya’s smouldering vocals supported and enriched by accordion, clarinet, guitar, double bass and percussion.
Palace of Magnificent Experiences is a multi-arts exhibition and retail space with bar services. An art deco journey into Wonderland meets Twin Peaks, POME is a revolutionary launching pad for all art forms.
